It's Okay to Feel Sad

By Uriah Cty, M.A., LMFT  We all feel sad at times. We experience a natural emotion in response to difficult or stressful situations. 4 Motives Behind Love-Bombing

Love-Bombing #Narcissism #Therapy #Triple5LightTherapy What to consider and how to respond. Love bombing has become the popular label for overwhelming someone with   attention , gifts, and words of affection or praise in order to win over their affection very early in a relationship. To the receiver, it may initially feel like being swept off your feet by someone who has fallen in love with you. After a few days or weeks, the person on the receiving end of this attention usually begins to feel uneasy and uncertain of the motives of the love-bomber. Due to numerous recent articles, many individuals are aware that this type of attention may be a sign of manipulation with malevolent intent. That certainly is a risk, particularly if the love-bomber is a narcissist or even a  sociopath . The  narcissistic  person may be using these gifts and declarations of love as a way to manipulate the receiver. Sociopaths have a history of weaponizing this strategy, with examples  dating  back to cult

Is it couple therapy, couple’s therapy, or couples therapy?

#BenCaldwell #MentaHealth #Psychology #HealthyRelationships  #Couples #Therapy #MFT By  Ben Caldwell ,  www.psychotherapynotes.com Okay, let’s not pretend this is an important question in the grand scheme of things. It is not. But for anxious types (like me) who want to make sure we’re using the right terminology, how do we describe that service of providing relationship therapy for two people?  Is it couple therapy, couple’s therapy, or couples therapy? I’m proud to offer a definitive, authoritative answer.* Read on. The evidence: AAMFT and state licensing boards The  American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy  seems content to not stake a flag in this debate. They manage to use all three variations in the  most recent issue of  Family Therapy Magazine . Heck, they’re all in the first seven pages. But we can draw some inferences from the organization’s title: While they don’t say “couple,” they do use the singular “marriage.” They could have gone with

Seven Negative Outcomes of Perfectionism

#Perfection #Perfectionism #Procrastination #Disappointment #Triple5LightTherapy #BlackTherapist #Therapy   The Adverse Effects of Perfectionism Perfection may seem noble, but it can do more damage than good when pursued obsessively. Let’s take a look at seven possible tragic outcomes of perfectionism. Stress: Striving for perfection creates enormous psychic pressure that can trigger psychosomatic symptoms such as chronic fatigue, anxiety, and restlessness. Procrastination: Deadlines come and go; nothing ever feels good enough. You fail to complete projects; you’re never content with your work. Eventually, if satisfaction remains elusive, you may abandon your efforts entirely. Disappointment: Your self-esteem takes a big hit with so many incomplete tasks and critical thoughts. You rarely experience the esteem-boosting burst of satisfaction and pride that comes with a well-done job. Self-critical thoughts: You fault yourself relentlessly. Chronic self-criticism fuels anxiety and hopel

“I’ll Never Do That Again!” And Then—Well, You Do!

#HealthyRelationship #Therapy #LMFT Posted Sep 25, 2020 Why do we repeat the same mistakes in our relationships over and over? Consider this: It has been a crazy Friday at the office unsuccessfully trying to get a new program to work on your computer. After going at it yourself (without success), you finally turn to the company’s techies. They can’t figure it out either. The program works fine on every other computer in the place but yours. It’s the end of the day and you finally give up on it. You head out and to your car and head home. You turn on the radio. The tunes annoy you, and you quickly turn it off. Your thoughts start reeling: “The software stinks, work stinks… life stinks.” Your stress intensifies. The night before, you and your partner had planned for a cozy dinner at your favorite restaurant. Your partner now greets you at home in a mellow upbeat mood, ready to go. You had both looked forward to the night out. You still do. But you continue to dwell on the

Is the news cycle stressing you out? Here are 4 ways to protect your mental health

#MentalHealth #BlackMentalHealth #Stress #Depression #Anxiety #PTSD #Therapy It’s important to stay informed, of course. But experts say digesting too much trauma-related news is linked to a host of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety and posttraumatic stress symptoms. You might be exposing yourself to such news without even realizing it, just by using social media every day. ”[S]ome may log onto social media apps with intentions other than to get news updates but may inadvertently get exposed to news posts from connections,” Jacqueline Sperling, a clinical psychologist and faculty member at Harvard Medical School, tells CNBC Make It. So, how can you effectively manage your mental health while still staying informed? Here are four tips from top experts: Read summaries that don’t involve pictures or videos Audio and video can be very visceral: Seeing or hearing someone else suffering can take a toll on your own psyche. Sperling says news summaries without any pictures or
