#UsToo: Raising Awareness of LGBTQ Survivors

#Fenway Health #LALGBTCenter  #UsToo   #Gay #Bisexual #Lesbian #Transgender #SexualAssaultSurvivors LGBTQ sexual assault survivors need acknowledgment and support to heal. Sexual assault does not discriminate, and survivors are not alone. We see you, we believe you, and we can help. #UsToo We see you. We believe you. We can help. Sexual assault affects people of all walks of life, and members of the LGBTQ community experience disproportionate rates of sexual victimization. But all too often our experiences and voices are left out of the larger narrative and the services available for survivors are designed for heterosexual and cisgender people. As a result, our unique experiences are frequently left unseen, unacknowledged, and often times, invalidated. Sexual assault doesn’t discriminate, and neither do we. D. Fuller asked, halfway through the graduate-level psychology class she teaches on Tuesday nights at Antioch University. Ms. Fuller’s students needed no further prompting. They began shedding layers, revealing what they’d been wearing underneath: T-shirts on which they had scrawled names, labels, and insults in Magic Marker ink. Around the room, the collection was various: “Sissy,” “AIDS,” “pedophile,” “pervert,” “fag,” “str8t-acting,” “socialite,” “fat,” “bland,” “emotionally white,” “immigrant,” “stupid American.” Welcome to L.G.B.T. With Fentanyl on the Streets, Opioid Users Should Test Their Drugs

#Fentanyl #LALGBTCenter #SyntheticOpioid #Addiction  A wide variety of street drugs can be laced with fentanyl. While it is advisable to test street drugs for fentanyl, there are no well-researched, established recommendations on how to test drugs with the test strips we provide. People who use fentanyl test strips provided by the Los Angeles LGBT Center accept all responsibility for any injury or death that could occur after taking drugs, whether they have been tested, or not tested, for fentanyl. For more information call (323) 993-7448, #LALGBTCenter Michael Marquesen first noticed about a year ago that fentanyl, a dangerous synthetic opioid, had hit the streets of Los Angeles. People suddenly started overdosing after they shot up a new white powder that dealers promised would give them a powerful high. “In Hollywood, they’re like ‘Everybody’s dropping … everybody’s overdosing!’” said Marquesen, director of the Los Angeles Community Health Project, which provides sup

Los Angeles LGBT Center Responds to Federal Government’s ‘Conscience Rule’ Rollback of Healthcare Protection

#LALGBTCenter #LGBTQ #LGBTrights #LGBTHealthCare LOS ANGELES, May 2, 2019—In response to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announcement of a final rule—Protecting Statutory Conscience Rights in Health Care—which allows healthcare providers to refuse to perform, accommodate, or assist with healthcare services based on personal objections, Los Angeles LGBT Center Director of Policy and Community Building Terra Russell-Slavin issued the following statement: “The Trump Administration's elimination of critical health care protections under the guise of so-called ‘religious freedom’ is a transparent and cynical ploy to discriminate against women and the LGBT community in order to score points with religious extremists. Millions of Americans—including members of the LGBT community and women—are now at risk because they will be denied access to reproductive care and other basic health services. Once again, this Administration has chosen to put crass political panderin
