With Fentanyl on the Streets, Opioid Users Should Test Their Drugs

#Fentanyl #LALGBTCenter #SyntheticOpioid #Addiction  A wide variety of street drugs can be laced with fentanyl. While it is advisable to test street drugs for fentanyl, there are no well-researched, established recommendations on how to test drugs with the test strips we provide. People who use fentanyl test strips provided by the Los Angeles LGBT Center accept all responsibility for any injury or death that could occur after taking drugs, whether they have been tested, or not tested, for fentanyl. For more information call (323) 993-7448, #LALGBTCenter Michael Marquesen first noticed about a year ago that fentanyl, a dangerous synthetic opioid, had hit the streets of Los Angeles. People suddenly started overdosing after they shot up a new white powder that dealers promised would give them a powerful high. “In Hollywood, they’re like ‘Everybody’s dropping … everybody’s overdosing!’” said Marquesen, director of the Los Angeles Community Health Project, which provides sup

Is there a link between caffeine and depression?

#Coffee #Depression #energy #Caffeine #well-being Caffeine is incredibly popular around the globe. It’s the most widely used central nervous system stimulant worldwide. Whether it’s in the form of coffee, tea, or energy drinks, people love getting their daily caffeine energy boost. About 85% of the U.S. population drinks at least one caffeinated beverage a day. But with all of this caffeine in our daily drinks, you might be wondering what impact it could be having on our mental health, too. Does caffeine affect depression or have any long-term effects on the symptoms of depression? Is there a particular form of caffeine that’s better for depression than the others?  These questions have been at the center of new research that helps us better understand the link between caffeine and depression. Most people consume caffeine for a boost in energy. Because the body and brain are intricately connected, this little energy kick may also help boost your mood, at least in the short term. R

Tulsa Race Riots or the Greenwood Race Massacre.: White mobs reduced black community to rubble in 1921

#African-American  #BlackAmerican #Black History, #BlackHistorymonth The Greenwood District on the north side of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was once nicknamed the “Negro Wall Street,” because of its thriving black professional and business community. Segregated Greenwood was home to 10,000 people that included laborers, domestics, teachers, business owners, doctors, and lawyers. It had its own schools and churches. Overnight, though, from the evening of May 31 through the afternoon of June 1, 1921, white mobs roamed the area, destroying, looting and killing whatever or whoever was in their path. A black veteran, thinking the time serving his country would save him, put on his World War I uniform and stepped outside. He was shot dead. A nationally renowned physician, Dr. A.C. Jackson, was also killed when he stepped out on his porch with his arms raised. It’s been called the Tulsa Race Riots or the Greenwood Race Massacre. Today, nearly 100 ye
